Troubleshooting

My mic was silent

recd warned that your mic was almost silent, or your voice is missing from a recording.

Check the mic recd uses

  1. Open Settings › Recording › Microphone and choose the mic you speak into. Mac default follows macOS, which may be a mic across the room.
  2. Watch the five level bars in the mini player as you talk. They should move.

recd remembers your choice, but when that mic is unplugged it falls back to the Mac's default. Plug it back in before you record.

Other causes

  • The Microphone permission. See Permissions.
  • A hardware mute on a headset or USB mic.
  • A Bluetooth mic that disconnected. recd says Your microphone stopped sending audio. See Bluetooth.
  • You're far from the mic. recd calls a mic silent when it stays very quiet for the whole recording, which can happen with a mic in a monitor or a speaker across the room.

Test before an important call

Set the mode to Meeting, record ten seconds of talking, stop, and play it back in the full window. If the transcript shows your words as Me, you're set.
