Recording
Stop and save
Stop from the mini player, the menu or a shortcut. recd saves, uploads and copies the link on its own.
Stop
Any of these stops the current recording, whatever kind it is:
- The red square in the mini player.
- ⌥⇧⌘R from any app.
- Stop Recording in the menu bar menu.
- The red REC timer in the full window's top bar.
A meeting can also stop by itself when the call ends. See Call detection.
What happens next
- Saving. The record button turns into a spinning ring, and the menu bar dot into a ring. recd finishes the file and moves it into your save place.
- Saved. A check shows for a moment.
- Uploading. Google Drive for desktop uploads the file. The full window shows Uploading to Drive…, then Saved to Drive.
- Link copied. When Drive has the file, recd copies its link and plays a short pop. The menu's top row reads Saved to Drive · link copied.
For a meeting, the transcript and AI notes follow. You can start a new recording while that happens.
If you'd rather recd didn't copy the link, set Settings › Storage › After saving to Upload only.
If saving fails
The recording stays safe on your Mac, and recd shows Couldn't finish saving with Retry save. See “Couldn’t finish saving”.
Hiding windows doesn't stop anything
Closing the mini player (⌘W) or the full window doesn't stop a recording. The menu bar dot keeps the red timer so you can see it's still going.
Stop before you quit recd. If recd quits while recording, for any reason, what was recorded is rebuilt and saved the next time it opens. See Crash-safe recording.
