Troubleshooting
Recordings aren't reaching Google Drive
No link, "Uploading to Drive…" forever, or files only on your Mac. Here's how to find where it's stuck.
recd saves into the folder Google Drive for desktop keeps on your Mac, and Drive for desktop uploads it. So the question is which half is stuck.
1. Where did recd save it?
Open Settings › Storage › Google Drive folder.
- This Mac only means recd didn't find Google Drive for desktop, or you chose to keep recordings on your Mac. Install or sign in to Drive for desktop, then choose recd folder · your account under Change….
- My Drive › recd with your account's email means recd is saving to Drive. Go to step 2.
A recording's page also says where it is: Saved to Drive, Uploading to Drive… or On this Mac.
2. Is Drive for desktop running and signed in?
- Look for the Google Drive icon in the menu bar. If it isn't there, open Google Drive from Applications.
- Click it and check it's signed in, online, and not paused.
- In Finder, Google Drive should appear in the sidebar with My Drive inside, and recd inside that.
recd finds Drive accounts in ~/Library/CloudStorage, where Drive for desktop puts them. If you just signed in, open recd's Settings again so it looks again.
3. Is the link just slow?
The link appears when Drive has uploaded the file and given it an ID. That's usually seconds, but a long screen recording on a slow connection takes longer. recd keeps checking for 10 minutes.
- Uploading to Drive… means it's still waiting.
- Saved · Drive link not ready yet means 10 minutes passed. The file is saved; Drive hasn't caught up. Once Drive finishes, copy the link from the full window (⌘L).
- No Drive link yet when you press Copy link: same thing, try again shortly.
Recordings that stayed on your Mac
If the save place was missing when a recording finished, recd saved it on your Mac and said this recording stayed on your Mac. Once Drive is back, choose This Mac only as the save place to see those recordings, right-click each and use Move To to send it to Drive. See Rename, move and trash.
A folder added by link isn't found
If Paste a Drive Folder Link… says Couldn't find that folder on this Mac, the folder isn't in an account signed in to Drive for desktop on this Mac, or Drive is still loading its folder list. Check the account, then try again in a minute.
