Recording
Call detection
recd notices when a call starts and asks to record it, then stops when the call ends. No calendar access.
With Watch for meetings on, recd asks Record this meeting? when a call starts, and stops the recording when the call ends. It's on by default. Turn it on or off in Settings › Meeting detection.

The prompt
When a call starts, a small panel appears under the menu bar:
- Record starts a meeting recording. Press Return for the same.
- Not now closes it for this call.
- Don't ask for the app stops asking for that app, such as Zoom, from now on.
To be asked again for apps you turned off, use Settings › Meeting detection › Ask again for every app.
Which calls it notices
recd watches which app is using your microphone. It recognizes calls in:
- Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, FaceTime, Slack and Discord.
- Google Meet, Zoom, Teams and Webex in a browser: Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Arc, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi. recd recognizes the call from the title of the tab in front, which needs the Screen Recording permission. A call in a background tab may not be noticed.
It doesn't read your calendar and doesn't ask for any extra permission. Dictation and other apps using the mic aren't mistaken for calls.
When the call ends
If the meeting recording started during that call, recd shows Call ended, stopping in 10s with Keep recording. Do nothing and it stops and saves. Press Keep recording to carry on, and stop it yourself later.
Safety stop
A meeting recording stops by itself after 3 hours, so a forgotten one doesn't run all night. Change it in Settings › Meeting detection › Stop a meeting recording after: 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours. recd tells you when it stopped one this way.
Missed calls
If you had a long call (40 minutes or more) and didn't record it, recd says so afterwards, for example Looks like you had a 45-minute call on Zoom. Nothing was recorded. It's a nudge for next time; there's nothing to recover. Calls from apps you told recd to ignore don't count.
Problems during a call
While a meeting records, recd keeps listening to both sides. If your mic goes quiet or stops, or the call's sound stops arriving, it shows an alert under the menu bar and the menu bar dot turns into an exclamation mark until you press OK. See Warnings while you record.
