Transcripts & AI notes

AI notes with Claude

recd turns the transcript and your own notes into clean meeting notes with action items, using your Claude account through Claude Code.

After the transcript, recd can ask Claude to write the meeting's notes. You get a summary, the topics, decisions, action items with owners and times, and open questions, saved as <meeting> - Notes.docx beside the meeting and shown under the player.

A meeting's AI notes: summary and action items
AI sections are marked with an outlined AI tag. Times like 12:41 jump the player there.

How it works

recd doesn't have its own AI service or API key. It runs Claude Code, Anthropic's command-line tool, on your Mac, signed in to your Claude account. Notes count toward your Claude plan's usage like anything else you do in Claude Code.

recd runs Claude Code with no tools, no plugins or MCP servers, none of your saved settings, from an empty folder. It can only write text back: it can't open files, touch your Drive, or do anything else.

What Claude receives: the meeting's name and date, your notes, and the transcript text. Not the audio. See Privacy.

Set it up

  1. Install Claude Code. In Terminal:
    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
  2. Sign in. In Terminal, run claude auth login and sign in with your Claude account. You need a Claude plan that includes Claude Code.
  3. Check Settings. In recd, open Settings › Transcription & AI notes. Write AI notes after each recording should be on, with Claude writes them with your Claude account, via Claude Code. underneath.

recd looks for Claude Code in the usual places: ~/.local/bin, /opt/homebrew/bin, /usr/local/bin and ~/.claude/local. If the switch is greyed out and says Needs Claude Code on this Mac, it isn't in one of them.

What you get

Your notes are the skeleton. Claude keeps every point you wrote and your headings, fixes typos, and fills in the detail from the transcript. If you wrote nothing, it organizes the notes by what was actually discussed.

  • Summary, two to four sentences.
  • A section per topic, as short bullets.
  • Decisions, if any were made.
  • Action items, as Owner - task, with the time it came up. Me is you, Them is someone whose name wasn't said.
  • Open questions, if any were left open.

Claude is told to use only what's in the transcript and your notes, never to invent names, numbers, dates or commitments, and to say when something is unclear.

In recd

  • AI sections carry an outlined AI tag and a thin line in the margin, under your own notes.
  • Action items are checkboxes.
  • Times are chips. Click 12:41 to play from there. They also show as ticks on the player's scrubber.
  • The header says Writing AI notes… while Claude works, then AI notes · Claude.

To open the document itself, right-click the meeting and choose Open AI Notes, or open it from Drive, which can open .docx files in Google Docs.

Turn it off

Turn off Settings › Transcription & AI notes › Write AI notes after each recording. Transcripts carry on. You can still write notes for one meeting with Write AI notes on its page.
