Recording

Record a meeting

recd records your mic and the call's sound on separate tracks, with no bot in the call. Take notes as you go.

A meeting recording is sound only: your microphone and the computer's sound. No bot joins the call, and the other people see nothing from recd. Because it records the Mac's sound, it works with any call app: Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, FaceTime, Slack, a phone call through your Mac.

Start one

Any of these:

  • Set the mode to Meeting and press the dot or ⌥⇧⌘R.
  • Choose Meeting in the menu bar menu, then Start Recording.
  • Click Record when recd asks Record this meeting? at the start of a call. See Call detection.

The mini player shows Meeting and Mic + call audio.

Take notes while it records

Open the full window (⌥⇧⌘O) and click Recording… at the top of the sidebar. That's the live notepad. Jot the points that matter. You don't need to write much: the AI notes fill in the rest from the transcript.

Press ⌥⇧⌘N from any app to add a new line that starts with the current time, like [12:41]. It opens the notepad for you.

Your notes are kept on disk as you type, so they survive even if recd or your Mac quits mid-meeting.

After you stop

recd saves the meeting in its own folder in your Drive:

Meetings/2026-10/2026-10-17 1400 Meeting/
    2026-10-17 1400 Meeting.m4a
    2026-10-17 1400 Meeting - My notes.txt
    2026-10-17 1400 Meeting - Transcript.txt
    2026-10-17 1400 Meeting - Notes.docx
  1. The audio (.m4a), with both sides mixed together, and its Drive link.
  2. Your notes, word for word.
  3. The transcript, made on your Mac. Your mic is Me, everyone on the call is Them. See Transcripts.
  4. The AI notes, written by Claude through Claude Code, if you've set it up. See AI notes.

The separate Me and Them tracks stay on your Mac in Movies › recd › Meeting tracks, for the transcript.

Make sure both sides are heard

  • Your side: check the level meter moves when you talk. If it doesn't, pick a different mic in Settings › Recording › Microphone.
  • Their side: the call's sound has to play on this Mac. If you take the call on your phone, or the sound goes to another device, recd hears only you.

recd warns you during and after a meeting if either side was silent. See Warnings while you record.
