“Couldn’t finish saving”: Retry and Discard
When a recording won't save, recd keeps every raw track on your Mac and lets you retry, or move it to the Trash.
Saving a recording means mixing its tracks into one file and moving it into your save place. If that fails, recd stops and keeps everything, rather than losing anything.
What you'll see
At the top of the recording's page in the full window:
Couldn't finish saving. Your recording is safe — use Retry save. followed by the reason.
with two buttons, Retry save and Discard. The menu bar menu shows the same message with Open recd to keep or retry…, and you'll hear a beep.
Retry save
Press Retry save. recd mixes and saves the recording again from its raw tracks. Fix the cause first if you can:
- Disk full? Free up some space.
- Drive folder gone? Check Google Drive for desktop is running and signed in.
If it works, the recording appears in the sidebar as usual, link and all. If not, the message comes back with the new reason, and the raw tracks stay put. Retry is greyed out while another recording is running.
Discard
Press Discard if you don't want this recording. recd asks Move this recording to the Trash? and explains that it will stop offering to retry it. Its raw files go to the macOS Trash, so you can still get them back from there.
The save place wasn't there
If the save place itself is missing when a recording finishes, for example you signed out of that Drive account, recd doesn't fail: it saves the recording on your Mac instead, and says The original save place isn't available, so this recording stayed on your Mac. Move it to Drive later with Move To. See Rename, move and trash.
Several waiting
recd offers them one at a time. Retry or discard one, and the next appears.
