What stays on your Mac, and what goes to Claude

Recordings and transcripts never pass through a recd server. The only thing that leaves your Mac is what you choose: files to your Drive, and text to Claude for notes.

No bot, no recd cloud

  • No bot joins your calls. recd records your Mac's microphone and sound, like a voice memo. The call app and the other people see nothing from recd.
  • There's no recd server. The app itself doesn't send your recordings, transcripts or notes anywhere, and has no recd account to sign in to.

Where each thing goes

WhatWhere it goes
Video and audioYour Mac, then your own Google Drive through Google Drive for desktop. Nowhere else.
TranscriptsMade on your Mac by Apple's speech engine. The audio isn't sent anywhere to transcribe it.
Each meeting's separate tracksOnly your Mac, in ~/Movies/recd/Meeting tracks.
Your notesYour Mac and your Drive, beside the meeting.
AI notesText sent to Claude, under your own Claude account. See below.
Phone recordingsYour phone to your Drive, then your Mac.

Choose This Mac only as your save place and nothing goes to Drive either. See Save places.

What Claude sees

For AI notes, recd runs Claude Code on your Mac, signed in to your Claude account. For each meeting it sends:

  • the meeting's name and date,
  • your notes,
  • the transcript text.

Not the audio, not the video, and nothing else from your Mac or your Drive. Claude Code runs with no tools, so it can't read files or take any action: it can only write the notes. What Anthropic does with that text is set by your Claude account's terms and privacy settings, the same as anything else you send Claude.

Turn AI notes off in Settings › Transcription & AI notes and nothing goes to Claude.

Call detection

Call detection works from which app is using your microphone and, with Screen Recording allowed, the title of the browser tab in front. It doesn't read your calendar, doesn't ask for Accessibility or notification permissions, and doesn't record anything until you press Record. Turn it off in Settings › Meeting detection.

Deleting

Move a recording to the Trash in recd and its files go to Google Drive's trash (or the macOS Trash), with its transcript, notes and the tracks on your Mac. Empty the trash to remove them for good.
