Save places and Drive accounts

Choose which Drive account, or which Drive folder, gets new recordings. Or keep them on your Mac.

A save place is where new recordings go. Change it in Settings › Storage › Google Drive folder › Change….

Settings: Recording, Storage and Transcription
Settings › Storage. The Google Drive folder row shows the current save place.

The choices

  • recd folder · your account – one for each Google account signed in to Google Drive for desktop. Recordings go to that account's My Drive › recd.
  • A folder you added by link – shown with its name and its drive, such as Client calls · Sales for a shared drive.
  • This Mac only – recordings stay in ~/Movies/recd and don't get a link.

The full window's sidebar lists the recordings in the current save place. Switch places and the list switches with it.

Switch Drive accounts

  1. Sign in to the other Google account in Google Drive for desktop, if you haven't.
  2. In recd, open Settings › Storage › Google Drive folder › Change….
  3. Choose recd folder · the other account.

New recordings go there from now on. Recordings already saved stay where they are; move them with Move To if you like. See Rename, move and trash.

Save into a specific Drive folder

Use this for a project folder, or a folder in a shared drive.

  1. In Google Drive in your browser, open the folder and copy its link from the address bar. It looks like drive.google.com/drive/folders/….
  2. In recd, open Settings › Storage › Google Drive folder › Change… and choose Paste a Drive Folder Link….
  3. Paste the link (recd fills it in if it's already on your clipboard) and press Use folder.

recd finds that folder on your Mac. The first time can take up to a minute while Drive loads its folder list. The folder has to be in a Drive account signed in to Google Drive for desktop. If recd says it couldn't find that folder on this Mac, check that, and try again in a minute if Drive just started.

recd remembers up to eight folders, so you can switch back to them from the same menu.

After saving

Settings › Storage › After saving decides what happens to a finished recording:

ChoiceWhat happens
Upload to Drive and copy linkThe default. The link is on your clipboard when Drive has the file.
Upload onlyIt uploads, and you copy the link when you want it.
Keep on this MacSame as choosing This Mac only.

Recordings folder › Change… (the working folder on your Mac) and Keep local copies are greyed out in Settings. They're coming later. Today recordings move straight into the Drive folder, and Drive for desktop keeps or streams them as you've set it.
